Space Coast Daily covers moving moments as Victoria Landing served as host for this momentous event

Earlier this month, St. Francis Reflections Lifestage Care made a visit to Victoria Landing Waterfront Assisted Living and Memory Care in Melbourne to honor its veterans with a custom Wall of Honor.  The ceremony included a special pinning of the veterans, as well as remarks and stories, followed by a reception with a pre-July 4th BBQ.  Nearly 30 veterans along with friends and families enjoyed a memorable program in their honor.

Cami Leech Florio, Chief Strategic Officer for St. Francis Reflections, Steve Griffin, newly elected board member for St. Francis Reflections, and Don Weaver, a Gold Star Dad from the Veterans Administration, were esteemed speakers for the inspiring event.  St. Francis Reflections Lifestage Care is a proud Level 5 partner of the We Honor Veterans, a program of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).  They are focused on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgement of our nation’s veterans.

Dozens of Victoria Landing Veteran residents were recognized with a commemorative certificate, pin, and coin signifying their service and sacrifice.  Inspirational stories were shared by many including Commander Edward Hogan, Retired U.S. Navy, who enlisted at the age of 19 and served our country for nearly 40 years and Don Weaver, Retired U.S. Army, who reminded participants, “It was our Veterans that got us here.”

Mr. Weaver also shared the stunning statistic that over 71,000 Veterans call Brevard County home, the second highest percentage of Veterans per population in the entire nation.  Members of the Uniform U.S. Air Force Airmen and Veteran staff members presented the certificates, pins, and coins to the honored recipients.
